Hockey Scouting Report Template

A one-page report you can fill out in the stands. It covers who you saw, where, what they did well and poorly, 1–10 ratings in seven categories, and your recommendation. Print a stack for your clipboard or save it as a PDF to fill in on a tablet.

Free to print, copy, and share with your staff.

How to get the most out of a scouting report

Write it the same night. Details fade fast. Fill in the ratings between periods and the notes on the drive home, while you still remember the specific shifts.

Rate against your level, not the league. A 7 should mean the same thing whether you saw the player in junior or AAA: how he'd play on your team. The rating rubric keeps the whole staff on the same scale.

One viewing is a data point, not a verdict. Track the viewing number. Most staffs want at least two or three looks, ideally one against strong competition, before moving a player to "Priority."

Be specific in strengths and concerns. "Good skater" doesn't help the next coach. "Wins races to loose pucks, but edges fade late in shifts" does.

End with a decision. Every report should finish with a recruiting level and a next action, so nothing sits in a folder.

Same report, no paper

This template follows the same structure as the scouting report in Blueline. Log it from your phone and it's attached to the player's profile, shared with your staff, and counted in your rankings.

Done with paper and spreadsheets?

Blueline keeps every prospect, report, and rating in one place your whole staff can see, on your phone at the rink or your laptop at home.
